Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the United Republic of Tanzania were established on May 23, 1996.

August 26, 2021 H.E. Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Kenya Mr. Pavel Vziatkin presented his credentials to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania H.E. Samia Suluhu Hassan.

The legal base of cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the United Republic of Tanzania is under development. In March 2017, the following draft bilateral agreements were submitted to the Tanzanian Side for consideration: Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation of the United Republic of Tanzania on Political Consultations, Agreement between the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training of the United Republic of Tanzania on Cooperation in the Field of Education, Memorandum of Cooperation between the  Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania on the promotion and reciprocal protection of investments.

On October 31, 2016, a Belarusian-Tanzanian business forum was held in Minsk, during which a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between The National Centre for Marketing and the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture.

Traditional articles of Belarusian exports to Tanzania are potash fertilizers, petroleum products, measuring equipment, etc. The basis of Tanzanian imports to Belarus is formed by the supply of fruits, vegetables, nuts, flowers and buds.
