On the 30th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Belarus and Tanzania
23.05.2026On May 23, 1996, the Republic of Belarus and the United Republic of Tanzania established diplomatic relations.
Despite their geographical distance, Minsk and Dodoma are bound by a commitment to creating a multipolar world and shared positions on the international stage. The two countries traditionally maintain friendly interactions within international organizations, including the UN.

A significant milestone in the anniversary year was the signing of an intergovernmental agreement establishing a Joint Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation. This step opens a new stage in Belarusian-Tanzania cooperation. The economies of the two countries demonstrate a high degree of complementarity.
Belarus views Tanzania as a key gateway to enter the markets of East and Southern Africa. The humanitarian dimension remains an important part of the bilateral agenda. The practice of allocating Belarus grants for the education of Tanzanian students at Belarusian universities is expanding.
Over the past 30 years, Belarus and Tanzania have built a solid foundation of political trust, which is now successfully translated into trade, economic, and technological projects for the benefit of the peoples of both countries.

To mark this significant occasion, congratulatory messages were exchanged. End of April 2026 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus also paid an official visit to Tanzania, confirming their commitment to building a long-term and practical partnership.
