Ambassador of Belarus Pavel Vziatkin holds a meeting with UN Under-Secretary General Ms. Zainab Bangura

March 15, 2021, Pavel Vziatkin, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Kenya, held a meeting in a videoconference format with Ms. Zainab Bangura, the UN Under-Secretary General – Director General of the UN Office in Nairobi.
Ambassador Pavel Vziatkin stressed the important role the UN Environment programmes play in protecting natural resources and securing sustainable development. It was noted that the Republic of Belarus made significant progress both in achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and in building environmentally friendly green economy and energetics.
The Ambassador noted that the Republic of Belarus has launched the country's first nuclear power plant built in compliance with the highest quality standards, which is confirmed by the European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group. The Belarusian diplomat drew the attention of the Director General to the projects implemented in Belarus on active integration of green technologies.
In turn, the Director General stressed that the pandemic has made the work of UN bodies around the world complicated forcing the organization to switch to an online format of work. The Under-Secretary General expressed confidence in the successful implementation of plans for joint work of the UN bodies in Nairobi and the Belarusian side and also promised to provide all the necessary assistance.
